Mobil Pegasus 1
Mobil Pegasus 1 is a premium synthetic gas engine oil formulated using wax-free synthetic base oils and a carefully balanced additive system. It is engineered to meet the highest performance requirements of modern high-output, naturally aspirated and turbocharged gas engines, including both stoichiometric and lean-burn designs.
One of the key advantages of Mobil Pegasus 1 is its outstanding oxidation and thermal stability. The formulation resists degradation and deposit formation, helping maintain clean engines by reducing piston land deposits, ring belt carbon build-up and valve wear. This contributes to extended engine life and reduced maintenance costs.
Mobil Pegasus 1 also provides excellent wear and scuff protection. It helps protect liners, pistons and valve components under high load and high temperature conditions, ensuring reliable performance in demanding gas engine environments.
Another important benefit is its excellent viscosity performance across a wide temperature range. The oil maintains strong film strength at high temperatures while also providing effective lubrication during cold starts, ensuring consistent protection under varying operating conditions.
Mobil Pegasus 1 also features low volatility and a low traction coefficient. These properties help reduce oil consumption, minimise deposit formation and improve engine efficiency, with potential fuel economy benefits particularly under variable load and speed conditions.
The product is suitable for a wide range of gas engine applications, including high-speed four-cycle engines, cogeneration units and engines operating on pipeline-quality gas or alternative fuel gases containing low levels of sulphur. It is compatible with common seal materials and can be used across a variety of industrial gas engine platforms.
Mobil Pegasus 1 meets key OEM requirements including MAN M 3271-1/-2, MWM TR 0199-99-2105, Wärtsilä W25SG and Caterpillar Energy Solutions TR 2105, making it suitable for use in demanding industrial and power generation applications.
Physical characteristics include a kinematic viscosity of approximately 94 mm²/s at 40°C and 13.0 mm²/s at 100°C, with a viscosity index of around 137. Mobil Pegasus 1 has a density of approximately 0.846 kg/l at 15°C, a flash point of approximately 238°C and a pour point of approximately −48°C. It also features a sulphated ash content of approximately 0.5% and a total base number (TBN) of approximately 6.8 mg KOH/g, supporting reliable performance in gas engine applications.
