Mobil SHC 824
Mobil SHC 824 is a premium performance synthetic turbine oil specifically developed to meet the demands of severe industrial gas turbine applications. It is formulated using synthesised hydrocarbon base fluids and a carefully balanced additive system to provide exceptional resistance to thermal and oxidative degradation while delivering reliable lubrication in demanding operating environments.
One of the key advantages of Mobil SHC 824 is its outstanding thermal and oxidation stability. The formulation helps resist oil breakdown during high temperature operation and heat soak-back conditions following turbine shutdown. This reduces deposit formation that could interfere with bearing lubrication or foul critical servo valves, helping maintain system cleanliness and improving overall operational reliability.
Mobil SHC 824 also offers excellent low-temperature fluidity combined with a naturally high viscosity index. These characteristics support rapid oil circulation during cold start-up while maintaining effective film strength at elevated operating temperatures. This makes the lubricant particularly suitable for gas turbines operating in remote locations or low ambient temperature environments.
The product provides reliable anti-wear performance together with protection against rust and corrosion. These properties help extend equipment life by safeguarding bearings and critical components operating under continuous or cycling conditions. In addition, Mobil SHC 824 offers good air release and foam resistance, supporting stable lubrication, improved oil film integrity and efficient system operation.
Mobil SHC 824 is recommended for severe stationary gas turbine applications, particularly land-based units used for standby power generation. It is also suitable for industrial gas turbines operating in low ambient temperature environments, as well as total energy and combined cycle gas/steam systems where long oil life, deposit control and consistent lubrication performance are required.
Physical characteristics include ISO VG 32 viscosity grade with a kinematic viscosity of approximately 31.5 mm²/s at 40°C and 5.9 mm²/s at 100°C. Mobil SHC 824 has a viscosity index of approximately 135, a flash point of approximately 248°C and a pour point below −54°C. The product also provides excellent air release, foam control and turbine oil stability of approximately 9,500 hours, supporting long-term performance in severe gas turbine applications.
