Shell AeroShell Grease 7
Shell AeroShell Grease 7 is an advanced multi-purpose synthetic grease developed for aircraft applications requiring dependable performance across a wide temperature range. Formulated with a synthetic ester base oil and clay thickener, it provides good load carrying ability, strong corrosion inhibition and excellent resistance to water, making it suitable for demanding airframe lubrication tasks.
The grease operates effectively within a temperature range of –73°C to +121°C. It maintains stable consistency and lubrication performance under extreme cold conditions, ensuring low starting and running torque at –73°C, while also delivering reliable protection at elevated temperatures. Its high drop point (minimum 300°C typical) and strong oxidation stability support extended service life in high-temperature environments.
Shell AeroShell Grease 7 satisfies nearly all the airframe grease requirements of turbine-engined aircraft and can also be used in piston-engined aircraft, provided seal incompatibility does not occur. Most civil aircraft manufacturers approve Shell AeroShell Grease 7 either by brand name or by specification as a general-purpose airframe grease. It is particularly recommended for lubricating highly loaded gears, actuator screw mechanisms, instrument components and general airframe parts operating within the specified temperature range.
Performance testing confirms strong load carrying capability, with a Four Ball EP Load Wear Index exceeding specification minimums. The grease demonstrates good stability after extended mechanical working, controlled oil separation and low evaporation loss. It also passes stringent copper corrosion, rust prevention and particle count requirements, ensuring reliable component protection in service.
Shell AeroShell Grease 7 meets MIL-PRF-23827C Type II and is approved under COMAC QPL-CMS-OL-302. As a clay-based synthetic ester grease, it must not be mixed with soap-based greases approved to MIL-PRF-23827C Type I. Additionally, it should not be used in contact with incompatible seal materials.
