Shell Gadus S2 OGH 1000
Shell Gadus S2 OGH 1000 is a high-performance open gear lubricant designed for severe duty industrial applications operating under high loads and elevated temperatures. The grease is specifically developed for use in open gear systems such as grinding mills and rotary cement kilns where conventional lubricants may struggle to maintain stable lubrication films. It is formulated using a high viscosity mineral base oil combined with an aluminium complex thickener and graphite solid lubricant to provide reliable protection under demanding operating conditions.
A key advantage of Shell Gadus S2 OGH 1000 is its excellent high-temperature performance. The aluminium complex thickener system provides strong thermal stability, enabling the lubricant to maintain its structure and protective lubrication properties even in applications exposed to sustained high temperatures. This makes the grease particularly suitable for equipment such as cement kiln gears and grinding mills where thermal loads are significant and consistent lubrication is essential.
The grease also offers exceptional load carrying capability. Open gears in heavy industrial equipment are subject to high contact pressures and shock loading during operation. Shell Gadus S2 OGH 1000 contains graphite solid lubricants that help form a durable protective film between gear teeth. This reduces friction, protects gear surfaces from wear and minimises the risk of pitting or surface damage under severe loading conditions.
Another important feature of the lubricant is its excellent pumpability. The grease is designed to be easily distributed through automatic lubrication and spray systems commonly used for open gear lubrication. This allows the product to be applied efficiently to gear teeth, ensuring consistent coverage across contact surfaces and reliable lubrication during operation. The product is compatible with most open gear spray lubrication system designs used in heavy industrial equipment.
Shell Gadus S2 OGH 1000 also provides strong adhesion and surface coverage. Its high base oil viscosity and formulation characteristics allow the grease to remain on gear surfaces during operation, even under severe mechanical stress. The lubricant’s adhesive properties help ensure that gear teeth remain protected while reducing lubricant loss during operation.
The grease is recommended for a range of high-temperature open gear applications including grinding mills, rotary kilns and other heavy-duty industrial equipment found in the cement, mining and mineral processing industries. It is also suitable for rotary driers, granulators and pelletizers where reliable open gear lubrication is required.
Typical physical characteristics include NLGI 00 consistency, aluminium complex thickener and mineral base oil with approximately 10% graphite solid lubricant. The base oil viscosity is approximately 1000 mm²/s at 40°C and 42 mm²/s at 100°C. The grease has a worked cone penetration of 400–430 (0.1 mm) and a dropping point of approximately 190°C. Performance testing shows strong load carrying capability with a four-ball test value of 800 kg and FZG load stage 12 performance.
