Shell Helix Ultra 0W-40 is a premium fully synthetic motor oil designed to provide maximum engine performance and protection under a wide range of operating conditions. The oil is formulated using specially selected synthetic base oils combined with Shell’s ultimate active cleansing technology. This advanced formulation helps maintain engine cleanliness, protect critical components and deliver reliable performance throughout the oil change interval.
One of the key advantages of Shell Helix Ultra 0W-40 is its powerful engine cleaning capability. Over time, contaminants and combustion by-products can lead to the formation of sludge and deposits inside the engine. These deposits can restrict oil flow, reduce efficiency and increase wear on engine components. Shell’s ultimate active cleansing technology helps prevent the formation of harmful deposits while actively removing existing sludge from dirty engines. According to testing results, the oil can be up to five times more effective at removing sludge compared with conventional mineral oils. This helps keep engines clean and operating efficiently.
The oil also provides excellent long-term oxidation stability. Engine oils are exposed to high temperatures and oxygen during operation, which can lead to oil breakdown and reduced lubrication performance. Shell Helix Ultra 0W-40 is formulated to resist oxidation and maintain its protective properties throughout the oil change interval. Testing indicates that the oil provides up to 30 percent more protection against oxidation compared with other leading fully synthetic oils. Shell Helix Ultra 0W-40 is suitable for fuel-injected petrol engines equipped with blow-by gas recirculation systems and catalytic converters, particularly those operating under extreme driving conditions. The oil meets major industry standards including API SN/CF and ACEA A3/B3/B4, and carries several major manufacturer approvals including Volkswagen VW 502.00/505.00, Mercedes-Benz MB-Approval 229.5, BMW Longlife-01 and Renault RN0700/RN0710. These approvals confirm its suitability for a wide range of high-performance engines.
Physical characteristics include a kinematic viscosity of approximately 75.2 mm²/s at 40°C and 13.6 mm²/s at 100°C. The oil has a density of approximately 0.840 kg/L at 15°C, a flash point of around 215°C and a pour point of approximately –42°C. These properties support reliable lubrication performance across a wide range of operating temperatures and driving conditions.
