Shell Naturelle S2 Hydraulic Fluid 32 is an advanced environmentally acceptable hydraulic fluid developed for use in hydraulic and power transmission systems operating in environmentally sensitive areas. Formulated using fully synthetic ester base fluids and ashless additive technology, the lubricant delivers excellent lubrication performance while minimising environmental impact. Its readily biodegradable formulation and low ecotoxicity make it particularly suitable for applications where leaks or accidental spills could pose environmental risks.
One of the key advantages of Shell Naturelle S2 Hydraulic Fluid 32 is its excellent wear protection for hydraulic system components. The fluid contains advanced ashless anti-wear additives that provide reliable protection for pumps, valves and other hydraulic components operating under demanding conditions. This performance has been demonstrated in industry-standard tests such as the Eaton Vickers 35VQ25 vane pump test and the Komatsu HPV35+35 high-pressure piston pump test. By helping to reduce wear and protect critical components, the lubricant supports longer equipment life and improved operational reliability.
Shell Naturelle S2 Hydraulic Fluid 32 is also designed to maintain hydraulic system efficiency across a wide range of operating conditions. Its excellent viscosity–temperature characteristics help minimise viscosity variation as operating temperatures change, giving the fluid multigrade-like performance. This allows hydraulic systems to maintain consistent lubrication and efficient power transmission during both cold starts and high-temperature operation. In addition, excellent cleanliness, filterability, water separation and air release characteristics help maintain efficient system operation by reducing the risk of contamination, foam formation or air entrainment within the hydraulic system.
Another important benefit of Shell Naturelle S2 Hydraulic Fluid 32 is its strong environmental profile. The fluid demonstrates over 60 percent biodegradation after 28 days under OECD 301B testing and has a high biobased content of approximately 82 percent. It is classified as not harmful to aquatic organisms such as bacteria, algae, freshwater invertebrates and fish when tested according to recognised OECD guidelines. These characteristics help minimise environmental impact compared with conventional mineral oil hydraulic fluids if leakage or accidental discharge occurs.
Shell Naturelle S2 Hydraulic Fluid 32 meets a range of international environmental and performance standards including ISO 15380 HEES and the requirements of the EU Ecolabel certification programme. It also complies with the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s Vessel General Permit (VGP) requirements for environmentally acceptable lubricants.
Physical characteristics include a kinematic viscosity of approximately 32.5 mm²/s at 40°C and 7.22 mm²/s at 100°C with a viscosity index of approximately 196. The fluid has a density of approximately 918 kg/m³ at 15°C, a flash point of approximately 246°C and a pour point of approximately –39°C, supporting reliable hydraulic system performance across a wide range of operating conditions.
