Shell Omala S4 GXV 150
Shell Omala S4 GXV 150 is an advanced synthetic industrial gear oil developed to provide outstanding lubrication performance in demanding industrial gear applications. Formulated with specially selected synthetic base fluids and an advanced additive system, the lubricant delivers excellent load carrying capability, superior resistance to micropitting and long service life even under severe operating conditions. The product is approved by major gearbox manufacturers and is particularly suitable for modern industrial gear systems that require high-performance lubrication and extended maintenance intervals.
One of the key advantages of Shell Omala S4 GXV 150 is its ability to provide significantly extended oil life compared with conventional mineral gear oils. Industrial gearboxes often operate under high loads, fluctuating temperatures and demanding environmental conditions that can accelerate lubricant degradation. Shell Omala S4 GXV 150 is formulated to deliver excellent resistance to thermal and oxidative breakdown, allowing the lubricant to perform reliably even at bulk oil temperatures of up to approximately 120°C. This stability supports extended oil drain intervals and can significantly reduce maintenance requirements and equipment downtime.
Shell Omala S4 GXV 150 also provides excellent wear protection and resistance to micropitting. The lubricant’s advanced EP additive system forms a durable protective lubricating film between contacting surfaces, reducing metal-to-metal contact and protecting gears and bearings from wear. This enhanced protection helps extend component life and maintain reliable gearbox operation even under shock loading conditions.
Another important benefit of Shell Omala S4 GXV 150 is its ability to maintain or improve system efficiency. The synthetic formulation provides improved low-temperature performance compared with conventional mineral oils, allowing the lubricant to flow more easily during cold start conditions. At the same time, the lower friction characteristics of the synthetic base oil help reduce energy losses within the gear system, supporting efficient operation and consistent lubrication performance across a wide temperature range.
Shell Omala S4 GXV 150 is recommended for enclosed industrial reduction gear systems operating under severe conditions such as high loads, wide temperature variations or limited maintenance access. It is particularly suited for gear motor systems and installations where equipment may be difficult to access and extended oil life is essential. The lubricant is also suitable for lubricating bearings and other components operating in splash or circulating lubrication systems.
Physical characteristics include a kinematic viscosity of approximately 150 mm²/s at 40°C and 22 mm²/s at 100°C with a viscosity index of approximately 169. The oil has a density of approximately 862 kg/m³ at 15°C, a flash point of approximately 240°C and a pour point of approximately –45°C, supporting reliable lubrication performance across a wide range of industrial operating environments.
