Shell Turbo Oil T 32
Shell Turbo Oil T 32 is a high-quality industrial turbine oil developed to deliver reliable performance and long service life in modern steam turbines and light-duty gas turbines. Formulated using high-quality hydrotreated base oils combined with carefully selected zinc-free additives, Shell Turbo Oil T 32 provides excellent resistance to oxidation, reliable protection against rust and corrosion and stable lubrication performance in demanding turbine applications. The formulation has been designed to meet the operational requirements of modern turbine systems while maintaining the strong reliability that has made Shell Turbo Oils widely used across industrial power generation and process industries.
One of the key advantages of Shell Turbo Oil T 32 is its strong resistance to oxidation and thermal degradation. Turbine lubrication systems often operate continuously under elevated temperatures, which can lead to oil degradation and deposit formation over time. Shell Turbo Oil T 32 uses inherently stable base oils combined with an effective inhibitor package to resist oxidation, helping minimise the formation of corrosive acids, sludge and deposits. This stability supports extended oil life and helps reduce maintenance costs and equipment downtime.
Shell Turbo Oil T 32 also provides excellent air release and foam control properties. The formulation contains anti-foam additives designed to minimise foam formation and rapidly release entrained air from the lubricant. This helps maintain stable oil circulation and reduces the risk of issues such as pump cavitation, excessive wear or premature oil degradation. By maintaining effective lubrication and oil flow, Shell Turbo Oil T 32 helps improve overall system reliability.
Another important benefit of Shell Turbo Oil T 32 is its excellent water separation capability. Water contamination is common in steam turbine systems, and effective demulsibility is essential for maintaining reliable lubrication. Shell Turbo Oil T 32 separates water quickly and efficiently, allowing excess water to be drained easily from the lubrication system. This helps minimise corrosion and wear, improving overall equipment reliability and reducing the risk of unplanned maintenance.
Shell Turbo Oil T 32 also provides strong rust and corrosion protection for turbine components. The formulation protects metal surfaces against rust formation and corrosion, even when exposed to moisture or humid operating environments. This protection helps maintain the integrity of critical turbine components and contributes to longer equipment service life.
Shell Turbo Oil T 32 is suitable for a wide range of industrial turbine applications. Typical uses include lubrication of industrial steam turbines, light-duty gas turbines where enhanced anti-wear performance is not required, hydroelectric turbine systems, and centrifugal or axial turbo-compressors and pumps where R&O type turbine oils are recommended.
Physical characteristics include a kinematic viscosity of approximately 32 mm²/s at 40°C and 5.45 mm²/s at 100°C with a viscosity index of approximately 105. Shell Turbo Oil T 32 has a density of approximately 840 kg/m³ at 15°C, a flash point of around 215°C and a pour point of approximately −33°C, supporting reliable lubrication performance across a wide range of turbine operating conditions.
