Mobil SHC Cibus 460
Mobil SHC Cibus 460 is a high-performance food-grade lubricant developed for use in food and beverage processing and packaging equipment where incidental food contact may occur. It is NSF H1 registered and complies with FDA 21 CFR 178.3570 requirements, making it suitable for applications requiring food-safe lubrication. The formulation is based on FDA and NSF registered synthetic hydrocarbon base fluids combined with a carefully engineered additive system to provide reliable lubrication and long service life in demanding operating environments.
One of the key advantages of Mobil SHC Cibus 460 is its excellent wear protection and load-carrying capability. The lubricant helps protect gears, bearings and circulating systems from wear and surface damage, contributing to extended equipment life and reduced maintenance requirements. Its excellent oxidation stability helps minimise sludge and deposit formation, supporting cleaner systems and longer oil drain intervals.
Mobil SHC Cibus 460 also provides a naturally high viscosity index and low traction coefficient. These characteristics help maintain lubricant film thickness across a wide temperature range while reducing friction. Reduced fluid friction may contribute to improved mechanical efficiency, lower operating temperatures and potential energy savings compared with conventional mineral oils.
Another important benefit is its excellent water separation and corrosion protection. Mobil SHC Cibus 460 helps protect components even in moist environments or areas subject to frequent wash-down. The lubricant is compatible with seals and construction materials typically used with mineral oil lubricants, simplifying changeover and helping reduce leakage risk. The product is pale in colour, low in odour and formulated without animal-derived materials or common allergens.
Mobil SHC Cibus 460 is recommended for heavily loaded gear, bearing and circulating systems within food and beverage processing plants. It is suitable for use across a wide range of processing and packaging equipment and can be included as part of HACCP programs. The product can be used above and below the processing line, helping reduce lubricant inventory and minimise the risk of non food-grade lubricant use in sensitive areas.
Physical characteristics include ISO VG 460 viscosity grade with a kinematic viscosity of approximately 458 mm²/s at 40°C and 43.6 mm²/s at 100°C. Mobil SHC Cibus 460 has a viscosity index of approximately 148, a flash point of approximately 294°C and a pour point of approximately −42°C. The product also provides excellent rust protection and strong load-carrying capability, supporting reliable performance in food-grade gear and bearing applications.
