Millers Oils Maxifleet 40
Millers Oils Maxifleet 40 is a monograde heavy duty engine oil for older generation vehicles and classic equipment. It is particularly suited to Detroit Diesel engines, and is the correct answer where a two-stroke diesel or an older plant engine calls for a straight SAE 40 rather than a multigrade.
Monograde oils are a smaller part of the market than they once were, but for the applications that need them there is no substitute. Two-stroke Detroit Diesels in particular were designed around monograde oils and the ash and additive levels of the era, and running a modern multigrade in them can cause more problems than it solves. Maxifleet 40 uses modern day technology to give added protection in those older applications while keeping the monograde viscosity behaviour the engine was built around.
It is a multiple application product, suitable for use both on and off road, and covers hydraulic and transmission applications as well as engine lubrication. For an operator maintaining older plant, that reduces the number of separate products needed on site, which is often the practical constraint rather than the specification itself.
The performance profile covers API CF-2, CF and SG, Allison C3, CAT TO-2, Detroit Diesel Series Engines 53, 71, 92 and 149, MAN 270, Mercedes-Benz MB 228.0, MIL-L-2104C, MIL-L-2104B and MIL-L-46152B, and ZF TE-ML-02H. It is additionally suitable for API CD, CC, SF and SE.
Typical characteristics are a density of 0.894 g/ml at 15°C, a kinematic viscosity of 14 cSt at 100°C, a flashpoint above 200°C and a TBN of 7 mgKOH/g.
