Mobilgard M420

Mobilgard M420 is part of the Mobilgard M20 Series, a premium range of 20 BN engine oils developed for medium-speed diesel engines operating on low sulphur fuels and liquefied natural gas (LNG). The formulation provides excellent engine cleanliness, particularly in crankcases, camshafts, piston ring packs and piston undercrowns. It is designed to deliver reliable lubrication performance across a wide range of modern marine fuel types.

One of the key advantages of Mobilgard M420 is its excellent lube-fuel compatibility. The formulation helps reduce sludge formation and maintains cleanliness in critical engine areas. This supports longer oil life, improved lubrication efficiency and reduced maintenance requirements.

Mobilgard M420 also provides strong thermal and oxidation stability. The oil resists viscosity increase and helps prevent deposit build-up in piston undercrowns and ring packs. This helps reduce liner and ring wear and extend component life.

Another important benefit is its corrosion protection capability. The balanced 20 BN alkalinity helps neutralise acids formed when operating on low sulphur fuels while protecting critical wear surfaces. Low volatility characteristics also help minimise lubricant consumption and maintain stable performance.

Mobilgard M420 is recommended for medium-speed diesel engines operating on 0.50% and 0.10% sulphur fuels and LNG. It is suitable for marine propulsion, auxiliary engines and power generation applications. The product has received No Objection Letters from major engine builders including MAN ES and Wärtsilä.

Physical characteristics include SAE 40 viscosity grade with kinematic viscosity of approximately 14 mm²/s at 100°C. Mobilgard M420 has density of approximately 0.902 at 15°C, flash point of approximately 271°C and pour point of approximately −15°C. Total base number is approximately 20, providing balanced acid neutralisation and engine protection.
