Mobilgard M50
Mobilgard M50 is a premium extra high-performance 50 TBN engine oil developed for severe residual-fuelled medium-speed diesel engines used in marine and stationary power applications. The formulation uses advanced detergent additive technology to deliver outstanding residual fuel compatibility and excellent engine cleanliness, particularly in crankcase, camshaft areas, ring belt zones and piston undercrowns. The oil also provides strong oxidation stability, low volatility and high load-carrying capability.
One of the key advantages of Mobilgard M50 is its excellent thermal and oxidation stability. The formulation resists viscosity increase over long operating periods while reducing deposits in piston undercrowns and ring belt areas. This helps maintain clean engines, extend service intervals and improve overall reliability.
Mobilgard M50 also provides superior anti-wear protection and detergency performance. The advanced additive system helps extend the life of critical wear surfaces while keeping camshaft and crankcase areas clean. High residual fuel compatibility reduces sludge formation and supports longer oil life in demanding heavy fuel applications.
Another important benefit is its strong corrosion protection. The high alkalinity reserve helps neutralise acids formed when operating on high sulphur fuels, reducing corrosion of rings, cylinders and bearings. Low volatility base stocks also help minimise oil consumption and maintain consistent lubrication performance.
Mobilgard M50 is recommended for medium-speed trunk piston engines used in marine propulsion, auxiliary engines and stationary power plants operating on heavy fuel. It is particularly beneficial in engines with low crankcase oil consumption or low cylinder liner temperatures. The oil can also be used to top up existing charges with low TBN levels to restore alkalinity reserve.
Physical characteristics include SAE 40 viscosity grade with kinematic viscosity of approximately 14 mm²/s at 100°C. Mobilgard M50 has density of approximately 0.922, flash point of approximately 228°C and pour point of approximately −6°C. Total base number is approximately 50, providing strong acid neutralisation and extended service performance.
