Shell AeroShell Grease 33

Shell AeroShell Grease 33 is a synthetic universal airframe grease formulated with a synthetic hydrocarbon/ester base oil thickened with a lithium complex soap system. It incorporates corrosion and oxidation inhibitors together with load carrying additives to deliver enhanced wear protection and long-term reliability in demanding aerospace applications.

Developed in response to industry demand for grease rationalisation, Shell AeroShell Grease 33 was introduced following Boeing’s development of Specification BMS 3-33. The objective was to create a non-clay based general-purpose grease offering improved wear and corrosion resistance, longer component life and the ability to replace multiple grease types used across aircraft platforms. Shell AeroShell Grease 33 meets the performance requirements of BMS 3-33C and provides the enhanced properties required by this specification.

The grease operates effectively across a wide temperature range of –73°C to +121°C, maintaining stable consistency and lubrication performance under both extreme cold and elevated temperature conditions. It demonstrates strong oxidation resistance, low oil separation, controlled evaporation loss and excellent water washout resistance. High anti-friction bearing endurance and strong load carrying capability support reliable performance in heavily loaded or high-cycle components.

AeroShell Grease 33 is approved for routine lubrication on Boeing aircraft where MIL-PRF-23827C or BMS 3-24 is specified and can be used in certain applications requiring MIL-G-21164, subject to manufacturer guidance. It is also approved for use in applications where MIL-PRF-23827C is specified on aircraft manufactured by McDonnell Douglas, Airbus, BAe Regional Aircraft, Canadair, Lockheed, Embraer, Fokker and Gulfstream, with certain exclusions such as wheel bearings, applications above 121°C and sliding applications requiring molybdenum disulphide.

By enabling grease rationalisation, Shell AeroShell Grease 33 helps operators reduce inventory complexity, lower maintenance labour costs and minimise the risk of product misapplication. It meets BMS 3-33C, MIL-PRF-23827C (Type I), AIMS 09-06-002, SAE AMS 3052 and COMAC QPL-CMS-OL-302, and carries NATO Code G-354.

As a synthetic grease, Shell AeroShell Grease 33 must not be used with incompatible seal materials.
