Shell Gadus S2 V220 AD2 is a high-performance multipurpose grease designed for the lubrication of bearings operating under severe mechanical stress and harsh environmental conditions. The grease is formulated using high viscosity index mineral base oils combined with a mixed lithium and calcium soap thickener system. This formulation is enhanced with extreme pressure, anti-oxidation, anti-wear, anti-corrosion and adhesion additives, as well as solid lubricants, to provide dependable lubrication performance where heavy loads and shock conditions are present.
One of the key advantages of Shell Gadus S2 V220 AD2 is its ability to withstand shock loading. Bearings operating in heavy-duty equipment can experience sudden impacts and fluctuating loads that place significant stress on lubricants. The inclusion of solid lubricants within the grease helps maintain a protective film between metal surfaces even during extreme loading conditions. Shell Gadus S2 V220 AD2 is recommended for heavy-duty plain and rolling element bearings operating under harsh conditions, including applications involving shock loads and damp or hostile environments. It is particularly suitable for off-highway equipment such as construction machinery, quarrying equipment and mining vehicles. The grease is also widely used for the lubrication of fifth wheel couplings in heavy transport vehicles where high load carrying capability and reliable adhesion are required.
Physical characteristics include NLGI 2 consistency with a lithium/calcium thickener and mineral base oil. The base oil viscosity is approximately 220 mm²/s at 40°C and 18 mm²/s at 100°C. The grease has a worked cone penetration of 265–295 (0.1 mm) and a dropping point of approximately 175°C. Extreme pressure performance is demonstrated by a four-ball weld load between 315 kg and 400 kg, and the formulation contains a minimum of 3% solid lubricants to enhance performance under shock loading conditions.
