Shell Gadus S2 V220 0
Shell Gadus S2 V220 0 is a high-performance multipurpose extreme pressure grease designed to provide reliable lubrication across a wide range of industrial and transport applications. The grease is formulated using high viscosity index mineral base oils combined with a lithium hydroxystearate soap thickener and a carefully balanced additive system. This formulation provides dependable protection for rolling element and plain bearings, hinges and sliding surfaces operating under demanding conditions.
A key advantage of Shell Gadus S2 V220 0 is its strong load carrying capability. The grease contains extreme pressure additives that help maintain a protective lubrication film between metal surfaces even when equipment is subjected to heavy or shock loads. This helps reduce wear and prevents metal-to-metal contact, supporting reliable operation and extended component life in demanding mechanical systems.
The grease also offers excellent mechanical stability. In equipment exposed to vibration or dynamic loading, some greases may soften and lose their consistency, which can result in lubricant leakage and reduced protection. Shell Gadus S2 V220 0 is designed to resist softening during operation, helping it remain in place and maintain consistent lubrication performance even in environments where vibration is present.
Another important performance feature is its resistance to water wash-out. Equipment used in industrial environments is frequently exposed to moisture or water contamination. Shell Gadus S2 V220 0 provides good resistance to water wash-out, ensuring that the grease remains in place and continues to provide effective lubrication even in wet operating conditions. This characteristic helps protect bearings and mechanical components from wear and corrosion.
Shell Gadus S2 V220 0 also provides strong corrosion protection. The grease has a natural affinity with metal surfaces and helps form a protective barrier that prevents corrosion, even when water contamination occurs. This capability is particularly valuable in environments where equipment may be exposed to moisture or harsh operating conditions.
The NLGI 0 consistency of the grease makes it particularly suitable for applications requiring a softer grease that can be easily pumped through specialised dispensing or centralised lubrication systems. It is widely used in steel mill lubrication systems, heavy-duty bearings and equipment operating under harsh conditions where reliable grease flow and distribution are required. The grease may also be used in mobile equipment and certain central lubrication systems where softer grease grades are specified.
Physical characteristics include mineral base oil viscosity of approximately 220 mm²/s at 40°C and 19 mm²/s at 100°C. The grease has a worked cone penetration of 355–385 (0.1 mm), a dropping point of approximately 180°C and strong extreme pressure performance with a four-ball weld load of at least 250 kg. The recommended operating temperature range is approximately –30°C to +120°C in closed bearing systems.
