Shell Gadus S3 T100 2
Shell Gadus S3 T100 2 is a high-performance industrial grease designed to provide long-lasting lubrication and reliable protection in high temperature bearing applications. The grease is formulated using high viscosity mineral base oils combined with a diurea thickener system, also known as polyurea technology. This advanced thickener system provides excellent thermal stability, allowing the grease to perform effectively in operating environments where conventional greases may struggle to maintain consistent lubrication performance.
One of the key advantages of Shell Gadus S3 T100 2 is its outstanding performance at elevated temperatures. The diurea thickener used in the formulation has a very high melting point, which allows the grease to maintain its structure even when exposed to high operating temperatures. Unlike many traditional soap-based greases, the thickener does not catalyse oxidation, meaning the grease retains its stability and lubrication performance over longer periods. This contributes to significantly extended grease life and reduced maintenance requirements in demanding industrial environments.
Shell Gadus S3 T100 2 also delivers excellent wear protection for industrial bearings. The grease forms a durable lubricating film between metal surfaces, reducing friction and protecting components from wear during operation. Although it is not specifically designated as an extreme pressure grease, it has been used successfully in slow-moving and heavily loaded bearings such as those found in continuous casting equipment in steel plants. This demonstrates the grease’s ability to provide reliable protection in a wide range of demanding applications.
The formulation also offers excellent oxidation resistance. A specialised high-temperature oxidation inhibitor system helps prevent the formation of deposits when the grease operates under elevated thermal conditions. This stability allows the grease to maintain its consistency and lubrication properties even during extended service periods. The base oil used in the formulation also offers strong resistance to evaporation, helping maintain lubricant volume and ensuring consistent lubrication coverage.
Another important benefit of Shell Gadus S3 T100 2 is its resistance to water wash-out. Industrial equipment can often be exposed to moisture or water spray, which may remove conventional greases from bearing surfaces. Shell Gadus S3 T100 2 exhibits strong resistance to water wash-out and maintains lubrication protection even when exposed to water contamination. The grease also contains corrosion inhibitors that help protect bearing surfaces from corrosion damage, even when the grease becomes contaminated with water or small amounts of salt water.
Shell Gadus S3 T100 2 is particularly recommended for high-temperature industrial bearings operating at temperatures up to approximately 160°C. It is especially suitable for applications where extended grease life and long re-lubrication intervals are required. The grease is commonly used in industrial machinery, electric motors and steel plant equipment where high operating temperatures and demanding conditions require reliable and durable lubrication.
Physical characteristics include NLGI grade 2 consistency with a diurea thickener and mineral base oil. The grease has a base oil viscosity of approximately 100 mm²/s at 40°C and 11 mm²/s at 100°C. Worked cone penetration is typically 265–295 (0.1 mm) and the dropping point is approximately 250°C. The grease operates across a temperature range of approximately –30°C to +160°C, with potential operation up to 180°C when re-lubrication intervals are appropriately adjusted.
