Shell Gadus S3 V460 2 is a premium heavy-duty grease designed to provide reliable lubrication and extended service life in demanding industrial applications. The grease is formulated using high viscosity index mineral base oils combined with a lithium complex soap thickener and advanced additive technology. This formulation enhances oxidation resistance, wear protection and corrosion inhibition, enabling the grease to perform reliably in heavy-duty machinery operating under high loads and elevated temperatures.
A key advantage of Shell Gadus S3 V460 2 is its exceptionally high base oil viscosity, which helps maintain a strong lubricating film between metal surfaces in slow-moving, heavily loaded bearings. Many industrial applications such as steel mills, mining operations and cement plants involve bearings that operate at relatively low speeds while carrying significant loads. The high viscosity base oil in this grease ensures that adequate lubrication film thickness is maintained under these conditions, helping reduce friction and protect components from wear and surface damage.
The grease also provides excellent mechanical stability, even under severe vibration. It is commonly used for continuous casting equipment, work roll bearings and other industrial components where equipment must operate reliably under high loads and elevated temperatures.
Physical characteristics include NLGI grade 2 consistency with a lithium complex thickener and mineral base oil. The grease has a base oil viscosity of approximately 460 mm²/s at 40°C and 31 mm²/s at 100°C. Worked cone penetration is typically 265–295 (0.1 mm) and the dropping point is approximately 250°C, supporting reliable lubrication performance across a typical operating temperature range of approximately –20°C to +140°C, with peaks up to around 150°C.
