Shell Gadus S3 High Speed Coupling Grease is a premium lubricant specifically developed for the lubrication of flexible gear couplings operating at high rotational speeds. These couplings are commonly used to transmit power between rotating shafts in industrial equipment and must withstand significant centrifugal forces during operation. The grease is formulated using high viscosity mineral base oils combined with a lithium complex soap thickener to provide stable lubrication and reliable protection in demanding high-speed coupling applications.
A key advantage of Shell Gadus S3 High Speed Coupling Grease is its resistance to oil separation under centrifugal force. In many standard greases, the oil and thickener components can separate when exposed to the high rotational speeds typically experienced in gear couplings. This separation can reduce lubrication effectiveness and lead to premature wear. Shell Gadus S3 High Speed Coupling Grease is designed to resist this separation, helping maintain a consistent lubricant structure and ensuring reliable protection of coupling components during operation.
The grease also offers excellent mechanical behaviour during operation. Flexible gear couplings require a lubricant that can flow and redistribute effectively within the coupling housing as the equipment rotates. Shell Gadus S3 High Speed Coupling Grease softens slightly when worked, allowing it to flow easily within the coupling while still maintaining sufficient structure to provide effective lubrication of gear teeth and contact surfaces. The lithium complex thickener system used in the formulation also contributes to the grease’s durability and stability. Lithium complex greases are known for their strong mechanical stability and good high-temperature performance compared with conventional lithium greases. This helps the grease maintain reliable lubrication performance even when couplings operate under elevated temperatures or continuous duty conditions.
Shell Gadus S3 High Speed Coupling Grease is specifically recommended for the lubrication of flexible gear couplings operating at rotational speeds greater than 300 rpm. These couplings are commonly used in heavy industrial machinery, including pumps, compressors, fans and other rotating equipment where reliable power transmission between shafts is required. Proper lubrication of these couplings is essential to reduce wear, minimise friction and ensure smooth and efficient operation.
Physical characteristics include NLGI grade 1 consistency with a lithium complex thickener and mineral base oil. The grease has a dark brown colour and a base oil viscosity of approximately 700 mm²/s at 40°C and 34 mm²/s at 100°C. Worked cone penetration is typically 310–340 (0.1 mm) and the dropping point is greater than 150°C, confirming the grease’s suitability for high-speed industrial coupling applications.
