Mobilgard HSD 15W-40 CI-4
Mobilgard HSD 15W-40 CI-4 is an extra high-performance multi-grade diesel engine oil specifically formulated for severe service high-speed diesel engines used in marine applications. The advanced formulation provides outstanding performance in both modern low-emission engines and older diesel engines operating on low or high sulphur distillate fuels. The oil is approved or recommended by major marine high-speed diesel engine manufacturers.
One of the key advantages of Mobilgard HSD 15W-40 CI-4 is its excellent control of soot and deposits. The balanced additive system helps prevent oil thickening due to soot build-up and high temperatures, reducing sludge formation and maintaining clean engine components. This contributes to improved reliability and extended service life.
Mobilgard HSD 15W-40 CI-4 also provides strong anti-wear protection and high temperature stability. The formulation helps reduce scuffing, bore polishing and ring sticking while maintaining a stable oil film across a wide operating temperature range. High viscosity index characteristics help reduce oil consumption and maintain consistent lubrication performance.
Another important benefit is its excellent water tolerance and corrosion protection. The oil maintains film strength in the presence of water contamination and provides strong TBN retention to protect against corrosive wear. Good low-temperature pumpability also helps provide rapid oil circulation and start-up protection.
Mobilgard HSD 15W-40 CI-4 is recommended for severe service marine applications including high-speed diesel engines such as Caterpillar 3500 Series, Cummins, Volvo, Daihatsu and Yanmar engines. It is suitable for both modern low-emission engines and older engines operating on low or high sulphur distillate fuels.
Physical characteristics include SAE 15W-40 viscosity grade with kinematic viscosity of approximately 109 mm²/s at 40°C and 14.2 mm²/s at 100°C. Mobilgard HSD 15W-40 CI-4 has density of approximately 0.87 kg/L at 15°C, flash point of approximately 223°C and pour point of approximately −33°C. Total base number is approximately 10, providing corrosion protection and extended service performance.
