Shell AeroShell Grease 22
Shell AeroShell Grease 22 is a versatile, advanced general-purpose synthetic grease developed specifically for demanding aircraft applications. It is composed of a synthetic hydrocarbon base oil thickened with a clay-based thickener system and fortified with carefully selected additives to provide outstanding oxidation resistance, corrosion protection, anti-wear performance and high load carrying capability.
The grease is particularly recommended for use in severe operating conditions, including high bearing loads, high rotational speeds and wide operating temperature environments. Its useful operating temperature range extends from –54°C to +177°C, enabling reliable performance in both extreme cold and elevated temperature conditions. A high dropping point and strong oxidation stability support extended service life, even during prolonged high-temperature exposure.
Shell AeroShell Grease 22 demonstrates excellent resistance to water washout and strong grease retention characteristics. This makes it especially suitable for applications where moisture ingress is possible or where long grease life is required. Controlled oil separation and low evaporation loss at high temperatures help maintain lubrication integrity over extended service intervals.
The wide range of approved applications includes aircraft wheel bearings, engine accessories, control systems, actuators, screw-jacks, servo mechanisms, electric motors, helicopter rotor bearings, instruments, airframe lubrication points, hinge pins, static joints and landing gear assemblies. Its versatility allows it to serve as a multi-purpose grease across numerous aircraft components, simplifying maintenance logistics.
Performance testing confirms strong anti-friction bearing endurance at elevated temperatures, excellent load carrying capacity and effective copper corrosion protection. These characteristics support reliable operation under dynamic loads and vibration while helping to extend bearing and component life.
Shell AeroShell Grease 22 meets MIL-PRF-81322G and MIL-PRF-24508B specifications and is approved to DEF STAN 91-52. It also carries NATO Code G-395 and Joint Service Designation XG-293, with additional international approvals including COMAC QPL-CMS-OL-301 and DCSEA 395/A. As a synthetic hydrocarbon grease, it should not be used in contact with incompatible seal materials.
