Shell Gadus S2 V220 AC2 is a high-performance multipurpose extreme pressure grease developed for demanding transport and industrial applications where strong water resistance and durable lubrication are essential. The grease is formulated using high viscosity index mineral base oils combined with a mixed lithium and calcium soap thickener system. This advanced formulation is enhanced with extreme pressure, anti-wear, anti-oxidation and anti-corrosion additives to provide dependable lubrication performance across a wide range of operating conditions.
A key advantage of Shell Gadus S2 V220 AC2 is its excellent resistance to water contamination. Many mechanical systems operate in environments where equipment is exposed to water spray, wash-down procedures or moisture ingress. The lithium-calcium thickener system provides improved water resistance compared with conventional lithium greases, helping the lubricant remain in place and maintain a protective lubrication film even when exposed to wet conditions. This capability is particularly valuable in construction equipment, transport fleets and other machinery operating outdoors.
The grease also delivers strong mechanical stability. In equipment exposed to vibration or shock loading, greases with poor stability may soften and leak from bearings. Shell Gadus S2 V220 AC2 is designed to retain its consistency over long operating periods, even under severe vibration conditions. This stability helps ensure reliable lubrication performance and reduces lubricant loss from bearings or mechanical components.
Shell Gadus S2 V220 AC2 also provides effective corrosion protection. The formulation helps protect metal surfaces from corrosion caused by water, humidity or environmental contaminants. By forming a protective barrier on metal surfaces, the grease helps prevent corrosion damage and supports longer service life for bearings and mechanical components operating in harsh environments.
Another important feature of the product is its extended service capability at moderate operating temperatures. The grease allows longer maintenance intervals in many applications, helping reduce downtime and grease consumption. In demanding transport applications such as transmission joints, the lubricant has demonstrated reliable field performance with regreasing intervals exceeding 30,000 kilometres in certain conditions.
Shell Gadus S2 V220 AC2 is recommended for heavy-duty plain and rolling element bearings operating under harsh conditions, including environments with vibration, heavy loads, shock loading and the presence of water. It is particularly suited to transport sector applications where a single grease can be used for both wheel bearing lubrication and chassis lubrication of passenger vehicles, light trucks and heavy-duty trucks. The grease is also suitable for construction equipment exposed to intense water wash-out conditions.
Physical characteristics include NLGI 2 consistency with a lithium/calcium thickener and mineral base oil. Base oil viscosity is approximately 220 mm²/s at 40°C and 18 mm²/s at 100°C. The grease has a worked cone penetration of 265–295 (0.1 mm), a dropping point of approximately 180°C and strong extreme pressure performance with a four-ball weld load of at least 315 kg. The recommended operating temperature range is approximately –20°C to +130°C with peaks up to around 140°C.
