Shell Helix HX7 10W-40 is a synthetic technology motor oil developed to deliver enhanced engine cleanliness, reliable wear protection and efficient performance in modern passenger vehicles. The oil is formulated using a blend of synthetic and mineral base oils combined with advanced additive technology to achieve higher performance levels than conventional mineral oil formulations. This balanced formulation helps support engine efficiency while maintaining strong lubrication protection under demanding driving conditions.
One of the key advantages of Shell Helix HX7 10W-40 is its ability to keep engines clean. During normal engine operation, combustion by-products and contaminants can lead to sludge and deposit formation. The oil uses Shell’s unique active cleansing technology to lock away harmful deposits and prevent them from building up on critical engine components. It also helps remove sludge left behind by inferior oils, helping restore engine cleanliness and maintain smooth engine operation.
The oil also provides excellent wear protection. Engine components such as pistons, bearings and camshafts operate under constant mechanical stress and high temperatures. Shell Helix HX7 10W-40 is suitable for use in gasoline engines, diesel engines without particulate filters and gas engines. It is also compatible with biodiesel and gasoline/ethanol fuel blends and can be used in modern direct injection turbocharged gasoline engines where protection against low-speed pre-ignition (LSPI) is required. The oil meets a range of industry and manufacturer specifications including API SN PLUS, API SN and ACEA A3/B4, as well as approvals such as VW 501.01/505.00, Renault RN0700/RN0710 and Mercedes-Benz MB 229.3.
Physical characteristics include a kinematic viscosity of approximately 92.4 mm²/s at 40°C and 13.9 mm²/s at 100°C, a flash point of around 242°C, a pour point of approximately –42°C and a density of approximately 860 kg/m³ at 15°C. These properties support reliable lubrication performance across a wide range of operating temperatures and driving conditions.
