Shell Corena S3 R 68
Shell Corena S3 R 68 is a premium performance air compressor lubricant designed to provide reliable and efficient lubrication for rotary sliding vane and screw air compressors. Developed using an advanced additive system, it delivers strong protection, excellent deposit control and long service life in oil-flooded or oil-injected compressor systems. The formulation is capable of supporting oil maintenance intervals of up to 4,000 hours where permitted by equipment manufacturers.
A key performance benefit of Shell Corena S3 R 68 is its long oil life capability. The lubricant is engineered to resist thermal degradation and oxidation even when compressors operate at discharge temperatures up to 100°C. This stability helps prevent the formation of carbon deposits within sliding vane compressor slots and minimises deposit build-up on rotating components in screw compressors. By maintaining internal cleanliness, the oil supports efficient compressor operation and extended service intervals.
The formulation also provides outstanding wear protection. An advanced ashless anti-wear additive system protects bearings, gears and other internal metal components from wear and corrosion, helping extend equipment life and maintain reliable compressor performance over long operating cycles.
Maintaining compressor system efficiency is another key design objective of Shell Corena S3 R 68. The oil delivers rapid air release characteristics and strong resistance to foaming, ensuring stable lubrication and reliable compressor start-up even during frequent cycling. In addition, its excellent water separation capability allows water contamination to separate quickly from the lubricant, helping maintain efficient compressor operation even in humid environments.
Shell Corena S3 R 68 is recommended for use in oil-flooded or oil-injected single-stage and two-stage rotary sliding vane and screw air compressors used across a wide range of industrial applications. The product meets the ISO 6743-3 L-DAH compressor oil specification and is compatible with seal materials designed for mineral oil-based lubricants.
Typical physical characteristics include ISO viscosity grade 68, kinematic viscosity of 68 mm²/s at 40°C and 8.9 mm²/s at 100°C, viscosity index of 104 and density of 873 kg/m³ at 15°C. The lubricant has a flash point of 248°C, pour point of –30°C and excellent oxidation stability with an RPVOT value of 700 minutes. Air release time is 5 minutes and water separability at 54°C is 15 minutes. The oil also demonstrates strong load carrying capability with an FZG test result of load stage 11.
